What is Delta Academy?
The Delta Academy is one response to the imperatives of the future. It is an exciting and innovative way for Delta women of vision to turn their considerable resources and energies to developing new purpose, new skills and new leaders from the ranks of 10 to 14-year old young women. The Delta Academy is designed to offer opportunities to young women of great promise who might otherwise be excluded because they lack support, resources, and encouragement.
The Delta Academy recognizes the disadvantages many young women in various communities face because of their gender, income, age, and parental resources despite the personal potential of the girls themselves. A primary goal of the Academy is to prepare these young women for full participation in the 21st century world.

Who are Delta GEMS?
The Dr. Jeanne L. Noble GEMS Institute (formerly known as Delteens) is a youth community service program which began in the early 70's. In 2006, the program was renamed to DELTA GEMS (Developing Effective Leadership Through Achieving, Growing, and Empowering Myself Successfully), which is an extension of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy program. The program is designed for girls in grades 9 through 12.
The mission of the DELTA GEMS Advisory Committee is to provide young ladies with a firm structural program that will enhance their self esteem, academic achievement, leadership skills, and cultural awareness. This, in turn, will provide them with the opportunity to develop emotionally, socially, and intellectually and be prepared to tak an active role in their success as they face the challenges of the world.
